HELP ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CHILDREN ACCESS EDUCATION
Access to high quality early education holds the greatest potential for improved outcomes for children. Sadly, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are 2.5 times as likely as other children to be developmentally disadvantaged when they start school. Providing them with access to quality early childhood education is one way to help address this issue.
Not for Profit, KU Children’s Services, a leader in early childhood education, is committed to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children do not get left behind.
In September, we will be completing a 120 km, six-day Larapinta trek in central Australia. We are dedicating this endeavour to strengthen opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to succeed now and in the future through:
• Fee Relief for Early Education and Care to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families who experiencing disadvantage.
• Career pathways in early education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
• Sound Amplification Systems to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait children who have otitis media that causes hearing loss and communication problems.
• Dharawal Language Program to help children retain their traditional languages
• Community Led Programs: Working together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Thanks so much!
I acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Central and Western Arrernte Country for allowing us the opportunity to share this magnificent place – the Larapinta Trail/Western MacDonnell region.

KU Marcia Burgess Foundation (KU Children’s Services)
KU Marcia Burgess Foundation (the Foundation) is a charitable entity for KU Children’s Services (KU) and relies on donations and grants to support initiatives that strengthen opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, vulnerable children and children with additional needs, to succeed now and in the future. KU has been a leader in quality early childhood education since 1895 and has had a profound impact on the lives of children and families who experience social and economic disadvantage. We increase our social impact through a range of early education inclusion, early intervention, allied health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and supported family programs, which the Foundation supports with a passion. Our vision is that every child experiences excellence in early education and care, inspiring learning for life. Our purpose is to nurture and grow children’s learning, and we partner with families and communities, and value children as citizens who create, think and do. Your donation helps to strengthen opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, for children with additional needs, and for children experiencing financial hardship to succeed now and in the future by:]improving access to early education, providing culturally safe and positive learning experiences, supporting children with additional needs to access vital health assessments and allied health services, and supporting the development of career pathways that increase the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the early education sector.
