Story
Hi There!!
I'm making a difference and shaving off my beard for a cause that's close to my heart. I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small.
On August 17th 2021 I will be shaving off my beard, after exactly 12 months of growth, in support of the Little Heroes Foundation. As many of you know I had been working in the mines previously for approximately three years. The mine that I worked at had a 'clean shave' policy, meaning no beards for me. It broke my heart a little every time I had to go back and remove whatever stubble I had managed to grow in my rostered time off. Then life happened and an amazing job fell into my lap, one that I couldn't say no to and added bonus... no clean shaven policy! So shave I did not. While it may be breaking my heart to remove all of my hard work and something I am extremely proud of (I even stole my girlfriends hairbrush to look after my new facial friend!) I am ecstatic to be supporting Little Heroes and all the good they do.
I chose Little Heroes for a number of reasons, the main one being that they provide help and support for critically ill children and their families. They aim to meet the needs of these children, no matter the diagnosis to make sure they have access to the best medical care. With one of their care programs they also provide daily support for these families. I wanted to be a part of a charity that aimed to make such a difference across the board. In the past 20 years, Little Heroes have provided over $20 million in lifesaving equipment to Adelaide's Women's and Children's Hospital, while we hope to never need their services I couldn't think of a more deserving hospital. Our final decision was made once we saw that one of the other local businesses we support, Fleurieu Milk Company, are also supporters of Little Heroes Foundation.

Little Heroes Foundation Incorporated
In 27 years of operation, Little Heroes Foundation has raised close to $40 million - the majority going towards purchasing lifesaving equipment at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital and providing daily support to families through the Little Heroes Care Program. Little Heroes is also pleased to announce a new partnership with the Childhood Dementia Initiative. There are almost 90 deaths each year from this illness, yet little is known about the 70 different variants of this condition. The Foundation is currently running the campaign ‘Raise it for Renee’, supporting a South Australian mum with all three of her children experiencing the devastating impacts of terminal childhood dementia. Little Heroes has committed $50,000 to support Renee and families like hers. In conjunction with this campaign we are also funding a PhD student in Professor Kim Hemsley's team at Flinders University to assist them with finding potential treatments and cures for childhood dementia.
Our partnership with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation continues to grow through our Big Talks for Little People campaign, along with a new commitment towards an Eating Disorder Facility to be built here in South Australia.
