Kokoda Challenge - Fundraising for Soldier On

Story

Hi Friends and Family - I'm entering an endurance event to support "Soldier on" and would be grateful for your support...

The Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast is hailed as Australia's toughest endurance event.  It is a gruelling, cross country, 4-person team event held over 96km, with a time limit for completion of 39 hours.

There is a good reason behind this distance and time - 96 km is the length of the actual Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea and the 39 hour time limit is in honour of the 39th Militia, the first Australian troops to set foot on the Kokoda Track. Participants (with the help of their support crew) trek a 96 km course that leads along fire trails, crosses 12 creeks and summits 5,000 m of vertical elevation. The goal is to finish as a complete team of four in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.

Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our physically and psychologically wounded. They want to show the men and women of our Defence forces that we will always have their backs.

Thanks to the support of the Australian public, they work to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australia’s wounded, giving those who have served our country the dignity they deserve and the chance to do and be whatever they choose.

Soldier On is independent of government and looks to build on the support offered by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and other government agencies by supporting all of Australia’s wounded, serving and ex-serving. They are funded by generous Australians and every dollar donated to the charity goes towards programs to help our wounded. We want to make sure our wounded are able to overcome the obstacles caused by their injuries; enjoy happy, fulfilling lives; and feel proud for the sacrifices they have made. They also serve as the link between wounded Australians and their communities, allowing people from all walks of life to support our wounded men and women and help them succeed in their rehabilitation and beyond.

Thanks for your support,

James
