DEVIL N ME AROUND OZEE - RIDE FOR NO MND
A BIKE RIDE AROUND AUSTRALIA TO HELP RAISE FUNDS TO FIND A CURE FOR MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE
For more information on this ride, please visit www.nomnd.com.au today!
The aim of the ride project is simple – to raise $1million for the Motor Neurone Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA) via a 15,500km, 5-month bike ride around the Australian mainland and Tasmania.
THE RIDE TEAM The ride team will comprise 3 people – Kim, a second bike rider, and a driver/masseuse/bike mechanic.
Devil is the name of Kim’s Siberian Husky/German Shepherd cross who joined Kim for the first 1730km of the trip, running beside the bike and keeping watch from the back seat of the Ute. It was decided to send Devil home from Townsville, as he was struggling to adapt to life on the road. Devil now fulfils his beloved role of Chief Ride Correspondent, keeping the public up-to-date and entertained via the pair’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com.au/devilnme.
THE RIDE The overall ride will be approximately 15,500km. We plan to ride around 150km a day and with rest days and other possible delays in mind, we hope to average 100km a day for the journey. Therefore the ride time is estimated to last 155 days i.e. 5 months.
The ride will begin on 31 May and finish in late October. This will allow for the most favourable weather (temperature and wind conditions) to successfully complete the ride on time.
The proposed route predominantly follows Australia’s National Highway (Highway 1) and will cover all mainland states, territories and Tasmania. Major stopovers will be:
Lismore - Brisbane - Townsville - Katherine - Darwin - Broome - Geraldton - Margaret River - Adelaide - Geelong - Melbourne - Devonport - Launceston - Hobart - Melbourne - Canberra - Sydney - Newcastle - Grafton - Lismore
We'll see you on the road!!
