Fundraising to find a cure for Arthritis

Story

Over the course of the year, I will endeavour to create multiple fundraising opportunities with the intent to raise money for research into finding a cure for arthritis.

Approximately 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. It was a daunting thing to be told, but at the same time there was a sense of relief at finally having a diagnosis after such a long time of sleepless nights and painful mornings.  The relief has definitely faded away now, and has been replaced with weariness, exhaustion and fear, that I have come so far yet still have so far to go.  But I am a bit of a stubborn person, and I feel that I've had plenty of time to feel sorry for myself. Now it is time to do something positive. And that is where this fundraiser comes from.  The knowledge that I am not alone in my suffering, and if I am capable of helping others in whatever way I can, I will!

Plans for fundraising:

  • First up for this year is a morning tea on the 16th of March, to coincide with Arthritis Awareness Week. Volunteers will bring in a selection of delicious goodies, and people are asked to bring a donation to share in the food.  Chad from Cappucino Xpress has generously agreed to participate, with 50c from every coffee sold to morning tea participants going toward this fundraiser.

  • I am currently planning a charity dance for later in the year in cooperation with the local swing dancing schools in Perth, notably Swing Zing, which is the school I was a part of before arthritis changed my life. Funds will be raised with a door charge, and selling soft drinks and water on the night. There will also be at least one raffle during the night.

  • I will plan a board game day with a similar format to the dance charity, which involves a door charge and soft drinks available. I will also run a raffle during the event.

  • I have purchased fun size chocolates that I keep at work and sell, with all profits going towards this fundraiser.

Thanks so much to my coworkers at P2 Energy Solutions for being so generous at this week's morning tea fundraiser! It means so much that so many people have taken part in what I consider to be a very important cause.
