Story

Like most people, I believed 2020 would be like any other year. However, the global pandemic and the dramatic changes we all experienced has brought a monumental change to the way we work, live and interact. I was fortunate to be able to take advantage of the seismic shift to rebuild myself both physically and mentally as part of my continuing personal journey.

At the time of the 5km Melbourne lockdown it occurred to me that I was ready for a challenge and the thought of walking from my home to Blairgowrie (approximately 80km) was born. Dubbed “Bambra to Blairgowrie” I realised I had an opportunity to finish this tough year with a sense of achievement and to help others through fundraising.

Kids Under Cover is a not for profit which focuses on preventing youth homelessness and helps ease the financial costs associated with education and job training. Not everyone is fortunate be born into a stable family environment and many of the young people supported are dealing with trauma, grief and mental health issues.

By raising money (and using my walk to raise awareness for this organisation), hopefully we can help give the young people of our community hope and security in such a difficult time.

On Sunday 20 December 2020 I will walk for approximately 20hours over 2 days down to Blairgowrie on the Mornington peninsular from my home in South Caulfield. I’m thankful for those who have offered to join me for a segment of the 80km course and to my “support crew”. I also ask that you please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Kids Under Cover, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Thanks so much for your support!

Kids Under Cover

Being homeless can happen to anyone.

On any given night, there are more than 116,000 people experiencing homelessness in Australia and nearly half of these are under the age of 25.*

For more than 30 years, Kids Under Cover has been working to prevent youth homelessness.

We know that if young people are not properly supported when they first experience homelessness, they have a higher chance of becoming homeless in their adult lives. Around 40% of homeless adults were first homeless as young people.**

In our work, we focus on early identification and prevention of youth homelessness, creating a proactive rather than a reactive approach to this very complex issue. We do this by building homes and providing scholarships for homeless and at-risk young people.
