Running a half marathon for Bowel Cancer

Story

As most of you know, my cousin Darren passed away late last year due to Bowel Cancer, the affect it has had on myself and my family is unimaginable.

After suffering with his digestion for a while, and being told that it was just a food sensitivity, he made adjustments to his diet. After experiencing constant pain in his stomach and back, complete loss of appetite and extreme fatigue, he had an emergency call with his GP, which later revealed high infection levels in his blood. He was referred straight away to A&E, for further examinations and tests.

Within days he was diagnosed with terminal Bowel Cancer and passed away days later.

Bowel cancer remains very rare in young people, despite being the 4th most common type of cancer. Much more needs to be done to support the early diagnosis of younger bowel cancer patients, bowel screening currently only takes place in older people.

His goal was to raise awareness about this horrible disease and to improve early diagnosis, especially for those who are "too young to have cancer".

My aim is to carry on his legacy by sharing his story and raising money for Bowel Cancer research. And to do so I have decided to run a half marathon (21km) on July 3rd 2022.

For someone who couldn’t run 2km at the start of the year, this is a huge physical and mental challenge for me but also something I’ve always wanted to do. Life’s too short not experience things, which is why I’ve been training this year to achieve this goal.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated!!
