Team Australia

Story

WorldSkills Australia is looking for assistance to send Team Australia to the 46th WorldSkills International Competition.

Hosted by WorldSkills China and the Municipality of Shanghai, and held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre, the 46th WorldSkills International will be held from 12 to 17 October 2022.

Team Australia will represent 17 different skills and trades at the event, covering a wide range of skills from carpentry to hairdressing to automotive technology and cloud computing. Each skill is represented by a Skillaroo (competitor) and Expert (coach). Skillaroos are all aged between 20 and 23 and will be showcasing the next generation of Australian skills talent on a global stage. These talented, dedicated young people have won competitions regionally and nationally, and are currently undertaking rigorous training schedules in order to prepare for international competition.

You will be able to follow the competition through WorldSkills Australia via our social channels and www.worldskills.org.au as well as through WorldSkills International at www.worldskills.org

We thank you for your support. By competing internationally, we are able to benchmark Australian skills development against international standards, showcase Australian skills excellence, and provide our Skillaroos with unparalleled career development opportunities.

About WorldSkills International Competitions

The WorldSkills International Competition is held every two years.

With over 85 member countries, the competition brings these nations together to increase skills awareness among young people, develop international skills standards, share research results, exchange best practices, and promote the value of skills for economic growth and personal success. The Competition in Shanghai is expected to see involvement from over 3,500 participants, includes over 1,400 competitors from over 60 countries and regions.

The Competition is a four-day event, where competitors and experts work together to showcase their skills excellence in completing an assigned project. The projects are designed by either an external designer, Skill Competition Manager or the international expert.

At the 45th WorldSkills International held in Kazan, Russia Team Australia - comprising of 15 Skillaroos and 23 experts - finished 8th overall out of the 63 nations that competed at the event. Team Australia walked away with one silver medal, three bronze medals and nine Medallions of Excellence. Following the success at the 45th WorldSkills International, WorldSkills Australia hopes to take a larger team to the 46th WorldSkills International and is seeking financial assistance from our partners to help fulfill this goal.

    WorldSkills Australia

WorldSkills Australia is a social enterprise that has a purpose to identify, demonstrate, promote, and grow the excellence of Australia’s skills development. A not-for-profit organisation, we are a united voice for skills excellence in vocational, technological, and service oriented careers in Australia. We recognise that the vocational education and training sector is central to Australia’s economic growth, productivity, and future employment outcomes. We have a long and successful history of supporting young Australians to excel in their trade or skill by encouraging them to take part in WorldSkills events and test their skills against their peers at Australia’s most prestigious skills excellence competitions. We are unashamedly about excellence and since 1981, more to 100,000 apprentices and trainees have taken part in WorldSkills Australia activities with many going on to become leaders and key influencers in industry, small business owners and educators. In addition, during the past 40 years, thousands of industry experts and education professionals have enjoyed professional and personal development by volunteering their time and resources to support, train and mentor the apprentices and trainees taking part in WorldSkills competitions regionally, nationally, and internationally. WorldSkills events also provide unequalled opportunities for knowledge exchange between educators, industry, employers, and government departments, with a focus on best practices in skills training and development. As a result, educators and trainers, who participate as a WorldSkills Volunteers typically report improved training delivery and standards and this flows onto the RTO’s and employer groups in a meaningful way. www.worldskills.org.au Here is some more information on WorldSkills Australia and our competitors in action at the 2021 National Championships in Perth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UAJc_0p7Kg&t=2s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQtyEujdkU0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ohbsz2FPfEk&t=2s
