40 for 40

Story

On the 7th June 2014, I will be Pack Marching in Soft Sand on Manly Beach 1km for every Soldier we have lost in action in Afghanistan and carrying 1kg for every Soldier we have lost in battle. All up I will be walking 40km to honour the 40 diggers killed in action and carrying 40kg to honour their families, wearing full uniform, boots, webbing and field pack.

I'm doing this to raise awareness for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and to raise some money to help our wounded Soldiers. I am a current serving member of the Royal Australian Air Force, I myself have deployed to the Middle East and when I returned home I struggled to settle into home life with my wife and two boys (Lachie 6 and Callum 3). I was not able to talk of my experiences and hung onto to those memories that haunted me for 6 years. Last October I started to experience anxiety attacks and found it extremely hard to function outside of my work place in the community. It was at this point I needed to get help. I have been recieving counselling since then and I'm now on the other side of that dark tunnel. Being a Christian and holding on strong to my Faith in God also helped me to be healed of PTSD.

I now wish to help others. No one should have to suffer PTSD alone. I want to encourage others out there who feel alone and are struggling, to go out and seek help. You don't have to do this alone. There is always HOPE. You will never be forgotten.

Your support and donations would be greatly appreciated.
