Heysen Trail Thru Hike - 1200 kilometre walk
Story
The Heysen trail is 1200 kilometres of diverse bush and rural lands, stretching from the desert in the Flinders Ranges, to the wild coastline at Cape Jervis, South Australia.
I am walking the entire length of the Heysen, mostly unaided and hoping the journey will take 35-40 days starting on 11 June. My Dad (Bob) will join me for weekends where possible.
The time I spend in the Australian bush-land fills me with joy. The diversity of the plants and creatures is astonishing, and often unique to only this continent. Sadly, we are losing our animals and plants at an alarming rate, with the biggest threats being land clearing, feral predators and climate change.
Bush Heritage Australia have been at it for 25 years preserving Australia's biodiversity. They protect valuable and vast areas of lands, nurturing it back to health, and providing a safe haven for the flora and fauna.
I have chosen to do this walk for Bush Heritage Australia. To share the wonders of the bush. To help protect it for years to come.

Today, over 34% of all Australia's mammals, as well as 55% of its birds - including many rare and threatened species - are protected on Bush Heritage's reserves and partnership properties, which safeguard millions of hectares of ecologically important land nationwide.
