Sea Souls

Story

Hello there!

Katie and I are excited to be making a difference and running for a cause that's close to our hearts through our Seas The Day September challenge.  This challenge involves us getting into the ocean for a swim every day in September for both personal goal and well-being reasons, along with raising awareness of bigger environmental issues that we feel need our attention.

Protecting our oceans along with it’s beautiful and vital wildlife is so important to us. Our oceans ecosystem are under threat from plastic and chemical pollution, overfishing and raising ocean temperatures due to climate change. Our love for the ocean and our planet as a whole is driving us to protect them from more damage and ensure they are thriving for future generations to come. Because of this we have created our fundraiser challenge to support the Australian Marine Conservation Society, an amazing not-for-profit national charity full of dedicated ocean experts, like scientist and researcher, who are doing integral work to protect our oceans ecosystems! As part of this challange, we also intend to #take3forthesea to physically do our part in discarding waste responsible and reducing plastic in our oceans.

Jasmine: If you know me, you’ll be aware of the fact that I’ve never been the best swimmer, but my love for the ocean and it’s beautiful creatures is vast and I don’t want that to limit my ability to enjoy it! That’s why as apart of this challenge each day I will try to swim at least one lap across Coogee Bay (about 400m) with the hope that by the end of September I’ll be much stronger and able to do at least 4 laps! For each day I get in I will donate $2 and for every lap of the bay I’ll add another $2!

Katie: I am not a 'swimmer' so this challenge for me is to quite literally get my body into the saltwater each day of September, come rain, gale or shine. I will be donating $4 per day (the price of a regular coffee) from my own pocket. Who knows, I might take to the water like a dolphin & end up swimming laps of Coogee Bay with Jasmine by the end of the challenge! The only way to find out is to get in & get moving.

We would appreciate any contribution, big or small that you can provide and would also love for you to get involved in our Seas The Day September Challenge in any way that you feel called to!

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice.

Thank you so much for your support!

    Australian Marine Conservation Society

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s oceans. We are Australia’s only national charity dedicated solely to protecting our precious ocean wildlife – a community of ocean lovers across the nation working for healthy seas.

We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans for over 55 years. Our paid and volunteer staff work every day to protect our coasts and oceans. AMCS works on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife. Together, we have protected critical ocean ecosystems with marine reserves around the nation, including Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef. We have led the movement to ban whaling, stopped supertrawlers, and protected threatened and endangered species like the Australian Sea Lion.

Together, our community of ocean lovers save our oceans every day.If you want to help ensure Australia’s coasts and oceans remain healthy and free for tomorrow’s generations, join us today.
