Mount Everest BC Trek
Mount Everest BC Trek
Story
Join Us on Our Journey to Everest Base Camp for ACRF!
We are a group of eight adventurers: Russell Dobson, Thomas Dobson, Abraham Elias, Thomas Fraser, Daniel Hallani, Hamish Matthews, David Smythe and Rhyll Smythe - taking on the challenge of a lifetime: a 17-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. This journey is more than just a personal achievement; it’s a mission to support the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) in their relentless pursuit of breakthroughs in cancer research.
Cancer is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide, affecting not only those diagnosed but also their families, friends, and communities. Our trek aims to honor their fight and contribute to the vital research needed to discover better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. We aim to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support the groundbreaking work ACRF is doing.
Our Trek:
Over 17 days, we will navigate the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas, facing both physical and mental challenges. Starting from the bustling town of Lukla (via the "World's Most Dangerous Airport"), we will trek through diverse Nepalese terrain, from thick forests to high-altitude mountain paths. Staying along the way in mountain settlements like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Lobuche over the 2 week trek, we will finally reach the iconic Everest Base Camp on the 3rd October.
Our Goal:
We aim to raise $1000 for ACRF. These funds will directly support vital cancer research projects, bringing hope and new treatment possibilities to those affected by cancer.
We invite you to join us in this mission. Your donation, no matter how small, will contribute to essential research and bring us one step closer to a world without cancer. Please consider supporting our trek and helping us make a lasting impact.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to ACRF.
Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF)
At Australian Cancer Research Foundation, we know that only brilliant ideas can tackle something as big as cancer. That is why since 1984, we have given scientists the technology, equipment and infrastructure they need for pioneering research. From small vaccines to big machines our funding has supported some of the biggest outcomes in cancer research, across Australia.
Over the last 40 years, we have invested $184 million into 86 cancer research projects across 44 institutions.
ACRF supporters have backed landmark projects such as; the development of the world’s first cancer vaccine (for cervical cancer), the establishment of a precision medicine program working towards the goal of zero deaths from childhood cancer and the creation of the innovative MRI-Linac which will improve patient outcomes and reduce the trauma associated with radiation therapy. By funding research that seeks to progress and transform the way we prevent, detect and treat ALL cancers, we are committed to our vision of one day reaching a world without cancer.
