Mick Mudie - Unassisted solo hike from Tharwa to Mt Kosciuszko for Soldier On
Story
Update 04 Jan 16
Hello everyone,
I did it! I completed the 220km hike between Tharwa and Mount Kosciuszko over five days, finishing on 03 Jan 16 in Thredbo. From stifling heat in the Namadgi National Park, to whiteout conditions in the Jagungal Wilderness and sleet on the top of Mount Kosciuszko, there were plenty of times I thought that I would have to stop. However, knowing that more than $4700 has been raised for Soldier On gave me the motivation to get through.
My sincerest thanks to everyone who has donated to what I believe is a very worthy cause. Soldier On enhances Australia’s capability to care for our physically and psychologically wounded, provides them with opportunities to inspire their communities and empowers them to achieve their goals.
If you or someone you know would still like to make a donation, the website will remain open until Feb 16. Donations made through this site are secure and will be sent directly to Soldier On!
Sincerely, Mick.

Hello,
I am completing an unassisted solo hike from Tharwa to Mt Kosciuszko along the Australian Alps Walking Track between 30 Dec 15 and 03 Jan 16 in order to raise awareness of the great work being done by Soldier On! This means I will not be reliant on caches or technology, rather carry all my provisions, source water locally and navigate via compass & map for the 220 km hike through the Namadgi and Kosciuszko National Parks over a five-day period. For safety, the hike has been planned in close consolation with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and I will only carry an EPIRB / GPS for reporting and emergencies.
My motivation is to raise funds for Soldier On, a cause that's close to my heart. Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our physically and psychologically wounded Defence force members. Soldier On is completely reliant on donations, so it is only with the support of the Australian public that they can continue to enhance recovery, inspire communities and empower Australia’s wounded, giving those who have served our country the dignity they deserve and the chance to do and be whatever they choose.
With your support, I am aiming to raise $2000 and would appreciate any contribution, big or small. Donations made through this site are secure and will be sent directly to Soldier On. I am exceptionally grateful to all who have sponsored me thus far for what is a very worthy cause!
Thanks so much for your support!
