Reach the Peak for Healthier Teeth

As you know, all too well, COVID-19 has caused unprecedented uncertainty within the community. Never before has investment in health and medical research been so important. That is why I’m dusting off my hiking boots and getting those COVID kilos moving to walk along the Grampians Peaks Trail to raise much needed funds for the eviDent Foundation.
Over the last 10 years eviDent has seen its research network grow in size and significance, working with other health care groups to translate oral health research into better general health for all Australians.

A recent article in J Dent (2021):
•    Ranked eviDent 3rd in completed studies globally; and
•    Ranked eviDent 4th in total publications out of 24 networks globally.
eviDent projects are so much more than ‘just teeth’. eviDent projects:
•    Help to identify patients prior to receiving irreversible dental treatment to allow access to more appropriate course of care
•    Enhance referral pathways between dentist and general medical practitioners for better diabetes prevention, diagnosis and management
•    Inform governments, regulators, professional associations and other stakeholders in advocating for measures to ensure that disparities in oral health outcomes do not widen as a result of this pandemic
•    Normalise oral health in alcohol and other drug recovery services
•    Provide a better understanding of the prevalence and impact of stress and burnout in the dental profession to help develop and target support programs
•    Help to design an approach to safely reduce dental antibiotic and opioid prescribing.
