Mateship Trek 2013
Mateship Trek 2013
Story
The Mateship Trek is a biannual event hosted by Federal MPs Jason Clare and Scott Morrison. The Treks are about:
· raising money for charity;
· raising awareness of our military history;
· building friendships between young people of different backgrounds; and
· building leadership skills.
In April 2013, a group of young Australians will head off to the Black Cat Track in Papua New Guinea where they will retrace the steps of Australian soldiers who defended this area between Wau and Salamaua in 1943 during WWII.
The Trek will conclude on Anzac Day at the Lae War Memorial, with a commemorative service to honour the veterans of these little known yet important campaigns.
In 2013, the Mateship Trek is proud to be supporting Soldier On.
Soldier On
At Soldier On, our mission is to work side by side with those who serve and protect Australia, and their families, HELPing them to secure their future.
Our services aim to HELP individuals build resilience and create, and expand, meaningful connections with family, community and employers through:
Health and wellbeing – Psychology, social activities and programs, sporting activities and programs and service initiatives.
Employment – Transition services, employment support, career development assistance
Learning – education and training programs, vocational training
Participation – social activities and programs focused on connections with family, friends and the broader community, volunteering and sports programs.
In order to achieve this mission, Soldier On has a team of amazing staff who dedicate their time to delivering services directly to service personnel and their families. We have centres in the ACT, Concord NSW, Parkville VIC and offices in Perth WA, Adelaide SA, Currumbin QLD, Newcastle NSW and Albury NSW. Our volunteer network and the generosity of the community, allows for activities and events to be held across the nation and support many service personnel and families outside of city areas.
Soldier On is not funded by government. It is thanks to corporate sponsors, trusts, philanthropic support and the generosity of the community, that enables us to provide services to those who need them.
