Story
My challenge is not a sporting one - those I do with great pleasure and need very little external support to motivate to keep going. My challenge is life administration - and every little bit of encouragement will be absolutely helpful in ensuring I am a better letter-opener, bag unpacker, and life-administrator.
These may seem trivial - but if you know me you will realise quite how ambitious this list is. With your support, in the month of June, I commit to
* Opening every letter addressed to me on the day it arrives
* Unpacking bags within 24 hours of returning home
* Completing all life-related administrative tasks at least 7 days ahead of the deadline
I am doing this in support of Watipa, a cause very close to my heart. Since founding Watipa in 2016, we have supported 61 young people in their education - with 31 graduates so far.
A recent independent impact review found that
o 97% of Watipa scholars believe they would not have been able to complete their degrees without Watipa’s support,
o The majority of Watipa scholars feel that the scholarship programme has increased their chances of finding a job,
o Inclusion in Watipa’s programs has a significant impact on self-confidence for the majority of participants, and
o Watipa scholars overwhelmingly see themselves as role-models for their communities, and actively seek out opportunities to ‘pay forward’ the benefits they receive through Watipa’s scholarships and programmes.
In September 2024 we will host our first ever in-person Annual General Meeting in Malawi. The event is being planned by a Malawi Taskforce of current scholars and alumni. The funds raised from this campaign will directly help support the running of that event, and the sponsorship of Watipa alumni from other countries (Ghana, Zambia, Uganda and Kenya) to attend. Any surplus funds raised will contribute towards future scholarship and mentorship funding for Watipa's programmes in Malawi.
If you would prefer to back an upcoming sporting goal, I will be running 120kms of the Larapinta Trail over 4 days in August....
Thank you so much for your support - zikomo kwambiri!
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to Watipa.

Watipa is a social enterprise working to enable equal societies, just development and better health for all. Founded in the UK in 2016, and now operating from Australia, we provide tailored consultancy services in global health, international development, and strategic leadership. Powered by the belief that a just world is possible, our work seeks to inform and catalyse positive social change. The 'pay it forward' model supports scholarships and mentorship for young leaders in Malawi, and encourages them to continue as leaders in transforming their communities. Our ultimate goal is to empower young people to lead community development initiatives, creating jobs and supporting others while also enabling inclusive responses to local and international development challenges.
