Story

Hello Friends,

In Sydney in lockdown on my 30th Birthday this Friday, all I'm allowed to do is exercise, so I may as well make this a birthday to remember and take on a "30 lap challenge" for the Ocean!

30 laps of Centennial Park  (115km)

30 laps of Bronte 440 hill (22.5km & 900m of Elevation)

30 laps Bronte pool (900m)

Anyone who knows me, knows how much time I spend in the ocean. Throughout my very short years of adulthood I have unfortunately witnessed first hand the decline of our oceans. So this 30th is dedicated to raising awareness and money for the Ocean, the greatest marvel on this planet.

We cannot live without our Oceans. They are our primary support system on earth - The lungs, the climate regulator and the ultimate food factory connected to almost every economic activity that makes our world go around.

The Oceans provide 99% of earths living space, and contains about 80% of all living things.

We've explored only 10% of its contents, yet 61% of fish stocks are now "fully fished", and 90% of large predatory fish are gone. Every year, 40 million tonnes of the 100million tonnes of fish that we catch, is "by-catch" driving Turtles, Dolphins and Sharks into needless extinction.

The Australian Marine Conservation Society is Australia's only national charity dedicated to protecting ocean wildlife. They are taking up the fight for our ocean, leading the movement to stop super-trawlers, banning whaling, and protecting endangered species and their habitat.

Please join me by donating whatever you can afford in support of the Ocean, share this and I will endure pain as a result by going around in a circle for 6+ hours on my bike, feet and in the pool.

To see how I go on the day follow me on Strava; https://www.strava.com/athletes/37487892

Thank you & stay safe,

George

Australian Marine Conservation Society

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is the voice for Australia’s oceans. We are Australia’s only national charity dedicated solely to protecting our precious ocean wildlife – a community of ocean lovers across the nation working for healthy seas.

We are an independent charity, staffed by a committed group of scientists, educators and passionate advocates who have defended Australia’s oceans for over 55 years. Our paid and volunteer staff work every day to protect our coasts and oceans. AMCS works on the big issues that risk our ocean wildlife. Together, we have protected critical ocean ecosystems with marine reserves around the nation, including Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef. We have led the movement to ban whaling, stopped supertrawlers, and protected threatened and endangered species like the Australian Sea Lion.

Together, our community of ocean lovers save our oceans every day.If you want to help ensure Australia’s coasts and oceans remain healthy and free for tomorrow’s generations, join us today.
