Story
Once again this year, I am making a difference by walking 50km for a cause that is very close to my heart
In July, this year it is Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month. I will be walking 50km this July to honour the strength and resilience of the children that suffer from this terrible disease while also raising awareness.
Arthritis is commonly thought of as a condition that only affects older people. However, there are many different types of arthritis, some of which affect babies, children, teenagers and young adults.
Juvenile Arthritis is one of them.
In Australia about 6000 children are affected by Juvenile Arthritis, making it as common as Type 1 diabetes in children under 16 years of age.
JA is an autoimmune and auto-inflammatory disease. That means that the immune system, which is supposed to fight viruses and germs etc. gets confused and releases inflammatory chemicals that attack healthy cells and tissues. It causes joint inflammation, swelling, chronic pain and tenderness.
School and sporting activities, partying and playing etc. aren’t too much fun when mobility is compromised and painful flare-ups take so much enjoyment away. Children suffer from chronic pain and discomfort in the joints on a daily basis, from one hour to the next.
I would greatly appreciate any contribution, big or small.
Any contribution will go towards supporting these children to make sure they have some sort of "normal life" while fighting JA.
Thanks for all the support!
