Adrian's Doing WHAT?
Adrian's Doing WHAT?
Story
On October 24, 2011, my inspirational father, David Gilchrist passed away just 5 months after being diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma. In previous years I have participated in DRY JULY, with my donors assisting the provision of Cancer Support Services for Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney, NSW).
Let's face it, ANYONE can give up the booze for a month, so this year I'm kicking things up a notch. It's time for a change... a physical change... As the "Shave for a cure / World's Greatest Shave" is specific to Leukaemia research, I wanted to do something in memory of my inspirational father on the second anniversary of his passing, so my hair will not know what happened to it, but I'm not going to make it as simple as "you donate, I'll go bald" - the extent of my brazenness depends on your generosity. Additionally, once the initial target has been reached, I will personally be donating an additional $2,000 of my own money to Aaliyah's Journey, a page set up to assist my cousin and her family with costs of microtia / atresia surgery for her 3 year old daughter, for which her family of four have to raise close to A$100,000 to pay for not only the surgery, but return flights from Sydney to California, as well as living expenses whilst they are over there. For more information in Aaliyah, her journey and her phenomenal family, visit http://www.aaliyahsjourney.info or her facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/aaliyahsjourney/
On review of the progress of fundraising, the revised list of actions are as follows:
25% of target / $500: Coloured Streaks (achieved)
33% of target / $750: Hair Dyed (not including facial hair)
50% of target / $1,000: All hair (including any facial hair dyed)
66% of target / $1,250: Head shaved (facial hair in tact)
75% of target / $1500: Full head shaved
100% of target / $2000 or more: Shaved head, images made publicly available and $2,000 donation made (in installments) to Aaliyah's Journey
As of 23/10/13 I am a mere $20 shy of the 75% target. Baldness is in my near future, and all donors as of 11:59pm AEDST (GMT+11) tonight will be e-mailed the AFTER picture
I officially launched the campaign through my facebook page in early July 2013 with an event created for people to register their interest in sponsoring me. Those who register as going to this event WILL BE EXPECTED TO DONATE BY OCTOBER AND WILL BE FOLLOWED UP IN MID OCTOBER. The action taken (as detailed above) will be based on the final amount as at 11:59PM 23/10/2013 as displayed on this page (i.e. as at the start of 24/10/13, the date of significance), with the action to be taken between then and 31/10/13 and this to be documented in pictures publicised to Facebook immediately following the visit to the hairdresser. In order for me to alter my appearance in any way, a minimum of $500 needs to show up here. The sooner you donate, the quicker I get scared that I'll have to lose my scruffy dark brown mop.
Get cracking!
What would you like to see? Others have already given me some ideas, but I will consider personalised requests from the largest donor in addition to my own ideas. The more you donate, the more likely I am to run with your suggestion.
