BMX Bandits race XPD

Story

After a wildly successful XPD 2010 (we finished, we all made it out mostly intact and are looking forward to racing again), The Bandits are back to race XPD 2011. And this time trying to step it up a notch by competing in the world championships - Traversing at least 700km of Tasmanian wilderness (depending on how good our Navigation is) on foot, bike, boat & whatever else the race directors throw at us! And even better - this time we are racing in the Premier Division with a female in the team!  This year the XPD BMX Bandits are Dale Atterby, Adrian Betts, David Ellis and Hilary Dyer.

MS Australia

We have chosen MS Australia as our charity partner because one of us has a close friend who has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis this year. We want to support an organisation that can support her, and many other Australians like her.

The Race

XPD is Australia’s own Expedition length adventure race - and, In 2011 -  XPD is hosting the adventure racing world championships.  We will be joining 96 teams from 23 different countries battling it out along the rugged coastline & through the mountainous interior of Tassie.  The exact course is kept secret until 24hrs before the start and then once we start, racing is 24 hours per day; teams choose when and where they will sleep.

The 2011 race starts on Wednesday 2nd November. Teams have 10 days to complete the course, with the race cut off being Friday 11th November. This could be pretty relevant - since in Cairns only 21 of the 47 teams managed to finish - and our time of 9.5 days was good enough for 11th place...

You can learn more about the race at www.XPD.com.au

Follow the DOT!

You can follow every step of the race over 10 days from the live website  http://www.widgetbox.com/mobile/app/xpd-live Every team will carry a tracking device that will refresh their location on the live race map every 5 minutes. You can also read team blogs, and post notes to us!
