Walking Miles for Smiles 2021

Story

In April 2021 we will be walking the 3 Capes track in Tasmania, over 4 days, to raise much needed funds and create awareness of the eviDent Foundation. The walk covers 48kms of cliff-hugging wilderness in South-East Tasmania - https://www.threecapestrack.com.au/

The eviDent Foundation funds multiple oral health research projects, including current projects regarding oral cancer and diabetes.

We need to raise over $1400 to help improve the oral health of Australians.

Did you know oral cancer is the 8th and 13th most common cancer for males and females respectively?

It is difficult to detect, remaining undiagnosed until well advanced. Prognosis is often poor, with devastating effects to those who are unfortunate to acquire it, from facial disfigurement to death. The eviDent Foundation is currently testing the ability of an Oral Cancer Risk Test to improve early detection rates and identify patients at risk of developing this deadly disease. This is one of the many of eviDent’s projects. More can be found at https://www.evident.org.au/

Diabetes is the fastest-growing chronic condition in Australia. The starting point for living well with diabetes is early diagnosis. 1.7 million Australians to live with diabetes with an estimated one third of cases being undiagnosed. Every year, 100,000 new diagnoses are made. Diabetes is the leading cause of end-stage kidney failure and working age blindness. It increases the risk of heart disease and stroke by 2-4-fold and is the leading cause of non-traumatic limb amputation.

The risk of many of these devastating complications can be significantly reduced by early diagnosis and timely, effective management. eviDent Foundation researchers are developing tools for early screening of diabetes to reduce the risk of complications.

We're hoping you can help us by supporting us in these incredible challenges by donating to help us reach our fundraising target.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly to eviDident Foundation. https://www.evident.org.au/

Thanks so much for your support!
