Story
Hi there/Hola!
On the 4th September 2014, I became the first female to run the Birdsville Track, a 475km dirt track made for cattle, that runs from Marree in northern South Australia, through the Simpson Desert and the Sturt Stony Desert, to Birdsville, just over the border in outback Queensland.
I completed the track in 7 days and 4 hours, averaging 65km a day, whilst raising awareness and funds for a local charity, Care Outreach.
My Event Manager and dear friend, Damian Brown, sadly passed away from bowel cancer 18 months ago. My children and I were there for the two-and-a-half year battle, watching Damian go through chemotherapy every second week, whilst he tried to remain positive, with a zest for life.
In honour of the tenth anniversary of completing the Birdsville Track, and in memory of Damian, I will once again tackle the gruelling kilometres of the Birdsville Track.
This time, I will complete the Track virtually, striking the same daily kilometres as I did on the Track, but from Snap Fitness Caloundra.
I will commence the commemoration challenge on the 28th August and finish on the 4th September, this time raising awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.
In loving memory of Damian xx
