Story
Hey Everyone!!
March 21st this year my son Ollie, aged 2 was diagnosed with type one diabetes and honestly he is lucky to be alive! Ollie had actually been presenting type one diabetes signs for weeks, but as parents we didn't know the signs to be looking out for, and missed many. There was always a reasonable explanation for the signs we did notice. E.g He is constantly fatigued because he is going through a growth spurt. It took us weeks to notice his health declining and by the time we knew something was wrong and took him to the hospital, little Ollie was in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and had only hours left to live.
Since the 21st of March, as a mother, I have carried grief, shame and guilt. I kept thinking 'If only I knew the signs I would have been able to prevent unknowingly letting my son suffer for weeks!'
My goal now, as a full time social media content creator, with a large platform is to spread awareness to as many parents as possible and help raise funds to go towards improved technology, diabetic resources and more clinical trials. To do so, I have made a commitment to walk 5km everyday for a month. Starting today the 28th of Oct, ending the 28th of Nov. (As someone who hasn't walked, or worked out in 3 years this is a huge goal for me)
I want to make a difference and show ollie my support as his mother. I have decided to raise funds for a charity that is obviously close to my heart. I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small to go towards this cause!
Please note that Donations made through this platform are secure and will be automatically directed straight through to Diabetes Australia Charity.
Thanks so much for your support!
