Swim Sydney
Swim Sydney
Story
On Saturday 6 April I set off from north Palm Beach at midday and headed south, all the way along the Sydney coastline to Bundeena at the southern tip of the city’s boundaries. The distance was approximately 62 kilometres and, with the help of a southbound current, we completed the swim in 19 hours 4 minutes 29 seconds, arriving at Bundeena at dawn.
The swim involved just a few challenges, the worst of which were many bluebottle stings, but there was also an electrical storm or two and a close encounter with a cargo ship at Port Botany thrown in there for good measure.
I was privileged to have the support of an exceptionally committed and talented crew, as well as Surf Lifesaving Australia (SLSA) who want to help make a difference to the lives of young people. This swim is to raise funds for the Inspire Foundation, helping tackle youth suicide and mental health issues in teenagers and young adults via its website www.reachout.com.
Please help the Inspire Foundation help young people lead happier lives.
ReachOut Australia
ReachOut is the most accessed online mental health service for young people and their parents in Australia. Our trusted self-help information, peer-support program and referral tools save lives by helping young people be well and stay well. The information we offer parents makes it easier for them to help their teenagers, too.
We’ve been championing wider access to mental health support since we launched our online service more than 20 years ago. Everything we create is based on the latest evidence and is designed with experts, and young people or their parents. This is why our service is trusted, relevant and so easy to use.
Accessed by more than 2 million people in Australia each year, ReachOut is a free service that’s available anytime and pretty much anywhere.
