Story
Hey Guys,
I've decided to up the anti this year from the Half Marathon and will be competing in the Half Ironman in Mooloolaba on the 13th of September.
The event includes a 1.9km swim, 90km ride and 21.1km run.
I'm undertaking the event in memory of my wonderful mum Lyn and to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer. She always marvelled at my ability to ride and run and I'll be thinking of her and the strength she showed during her illness to get me through the day.
Mum was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer New Years Eve 2008 and succumbed in March 2010. Since then, we as a family have strived to raise funds which will aid the employment and development of research nurses who assist with research and clinical trials aimed at reducing the mortality rate of Ovarian Cancer.
There are currently no early detection tests for Ovarian Cancer making it important for every woman and also men to know the signs and symptoms. Often symptoms are regular types of issues women have and so they are ignored and not questioned before it is then too late. A pap smear does NOT detect Ovarian Cancer.
The four types of symptoms most frequently are:
- Abdominal or pelvic pain.
- Increased abdominal size or persistent abdominal bloating.
- Needing to urinate often or urgently.
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly.
Currently 2 out of 3 women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer die from the disease, so research is vital to decrease these damning statistics.
To have your support would mean a lot to me and all of those in the wider community that have been impacted by Ovarian Cancer.
Any donation will make a difference so please donate generously!
Thanks,
Tommy Mac
Women's Cancer Foundation (ANZGOG)
2 out of 3 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die.... Please, help us turn the tide.
The Women’s Cancer Foundation was established in 1996 to raise funds for research into ovarian cancer. We have raised millions of dollars to fund researchers looking for more effective ways to treat and care for women suffering with ovarian cancer...because sadly, 2 out of 3 Australian women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die.
Our goal is to reduce the mortality rate from this malignancy, by:
Engaging in international clinical trials;
Finding ways to reverse resistance to cancer drugs;
Researching how best to use a woman's own immune system to combat the disease.
Please help – donate today.
