Story
Hello there!
Mark and I are soon to embark on another Marathon (yes, all 42.2 kilometers of it)! It is being held on the 26th May in the beautiful Barossa Valley and we are hoping to make the event extra special by raising some money for our efforts.
We understand that fundraising these days is absolutely everywhere and linked to everything so if you support your own set of charities or are busy helping your kids/colleagues/friends to fundraise then please do not feel pressured into donating. However if you are interested in helping out a very worthy cause then please, read on!
We have recently travelled to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand and it really hit home how lucky we have it here in Australia compared to so many other countries. We are wanting to raise some well needed funds for New Hope Cambodia, an NGO dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families in Mondul 3, Siem Reap. The focus of New Hope Cambodia is to provide 'free education for all' - the founders recognise the vital role education plays in helping break the cycle of poverty. Most families in Mondul 3 cannot afford school fees, books or uniforms, and many children are needed at home to mind younger siblings while their parents or older siblings attend work or work themselves to support their family.
New Hope Cambodia provides free education for 600 students daily, teaching English, maths, computer skills, sex education and equality and sport. It also supports 250 students undertaking a formal Khmer education and provides funding for uniforms, books and bicycles.
Mark and I have sponsored a child each but we are hoping to raise more funds to help more kids!
In order to prepare for the marathon we have already churned out 570km in training, and with 100km more scheduled, the pain's not over yet! Our aims are humble but we figure if we can run a 42.2km marathon then surely we could raise $422 towards this cause?
Just think, if you sponsor us just 25c per km that we will run in the marathon then that's $10.50, 50c per km gets them $21 and for those of you really good at maths just a buck a km gets the kids $42! Dig deep and hit the New Hope Cambodia website to contribute!
And if you have nothing better to do on Sunday 26th May get up to the Barossa and cheer us on, God knows we'll need it! :)

Our Mission….. to restore hope, dignity and promise to these once proud and prosperous peoples. Mondul 3 Village, Siem Reap….. one of the poorest slum areas in Cambodia. A broken community of army families, karaoke/sex workers and displaced men women and children.
New Hope Cambodia is a grass roots, hands on and non government organization. “Whilst 'free education for all' is our priority, an important step in breaking the cycle of poverty, we cannot ignore the chronic malnutrition; ill health and appalling living conditions our students and families face every day”.
Today, New Hope, with the assistance of sponsors and volunteers, also provides free medical treatment for up to one hundred residents per day for illnesses such as chronic malnutrition, HIV, hepatitis, typhoid, tuberculosis and dengue fever and supports over 300 families on a food program
- Food supplies and support to 320families
- Baby formula for 100 malnourished babies.
- Education for 1000 students
- Regular classes are held for Mothers on Family Planning, Child care, and Food Hygiene; and delivers awareness of gambling, drug and Child trafficking issues.
